More About Texture – Part 2 – A DECORATING TIP

Texture can add contrast and punch as I mentioned in the last blog post about Irene Gate’s colorful paintings.



    In the photo above, the taller lamp is basically one value of silver, the contrast comes from the smooth clear glass shade against the ornate filigree in the metal base. More texture is added from the burlap runner, the caprice seashell lamp and the polished pewter clock ... Lots of punch in this photo, not so much from color and value, but mostly from texture!
     Do you want punch in your decorating? Think: CONTRAST using value and texture, be it with or without color.
