#1 Trick for Easy Sketching

The simplest way to transcribe a detailed image is: Using a Grid.

When drawing the outline to paint a pet portrait on canvas I first divide the photograph into a crisscross of even lines. Proportionately I draw the same grid onto the canvas. This grid allows me to duplicate the exact shapes inside an individual square. For instance, if the eye is half-way across the line of one box in the photograph it should be in the same position in the sketch on the canvas.

Using a grid is a quick way to draw detailed sketches. Realistic drawing is one of the 4 stages of an artist.
